It would be wrong to talk about the songs of 2007 without mentioning the goliath that Amy Winehouse created. Yes, I’m talking about “Rehab”. The song was good and it was entertaining and then she ended up everywhere on the planet. And the song was unavoidable. Hell, in NYC, there were commercials for Family Guy that featured the song. And of course, it brought with it the unavoidable cover. This one was done by Seether. Then there’s the remix which featured Jay-Z. And then came the mash-ups. They included a mix with Britney Spears’ “Toxic” that became known as “Detox”. Another big time mashup was Party Ben’s version that mixed it with the Four Tops’ “Can’t Help Myself” (Get it, “Rehab (I Can’t Help Myself)”). It even got mixed with another overplayed song of 2007- “Young Folks” by Peter Bjorn and John. So, the song was absolutely everywhere. Amy Winehouse, you earn this year’s Brainwashing Award. Here’s another interesting mashup of the song, done by the brilliant ToTom.
