Best director is a VMA that they don’t often mess up. It’s where some of music video’s heaviest honchos get their kudos. Winners have included Jean-Baptiste Mondino, David Fincher, Spike Jonze, Dayton/Faris, Mark Romanek and Samuel Bayer. The VMA for best direction seldom has failed to score. So who won in 2008? Erykah Badu and Mr. Roboto for “Honey”. Who the hell is Mr. Roboto? It’s actually Chris Robinson who is an up and coming director who did such videos as DMX’s “Lord Give Me A Sign”, Nas’ “One Mic” and Alicia Keys “Karma”. Does he fit in with the directors that came before him? Not yet but there is potential. So, there have been many misses with the VMAs but this is a constant hit. Here’s a classic winner from the Smashing Pumpkins as directed by music video’s most awesome husband and wife, Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris.

Song 676- “Tonight Tonight” by the Smashing Pumpkins
