Yesterday I talked about how Howard Greenhalgh worked with Love and Rockets and that foresahdowed other times in his career. Love and Rockets was a trio, born out of the ashes of Bauhaus, led up by an androgynous lead singer. Years later, Greenhalgh would work with another trio with an androgynous lead singer- Placebo. And if you compare the videos for Love & Rockets’ “So Alive” and Placebo’s “Nancy Boy”, it’s almost as if one is the new version of the other. “So Alive” is full of distorting 80’s effects. “Nancy Boy” is full of newer effects. Both are full of disembodied women’s legs but the Placebo video really takes it that next step beyond. Greenhalgh would also work with Placebo on several other videos including “Bruise Pristine”, “Slave to the Wage”, “The Bitter End”, “This Picture” and “Special K”. Lots of great stuff.
