As themes go, I don’t feel that myth and music has been a runaway success. But any theme that includes Clutch, Siouxsie and the Banshees, AFI and a reference to one of the great 80’s films can’t be that bad. For the last post of this theme, I wanna talk about Vishnu. Now, here is where things start getting tricky. Vishnu is one of the five forms of God according to hinduism. Now, that brings us to the question- mythology or religion. According to Websters:

Mythology:
1: an allegorical narrative
2: a body of myths; the myths dealing with the gods, demigods, and legendary heroes of a particular people

And with that myth is defined as “a usually traditional story of ostensibly historical events that serves to unfold part of the world view of a people or explain a practice, belief, or natural phenomenon”. Religion is the service and worship of God or the supernatural. So mythology is the stories. religion is the faith. Got it? Good.

Over at Songfight, we songfighters have to deal with all sorts of crazy titles. Well, none have ever been as crazy as the mythology based “Rockopolousaninjananophone Eternal – The Vishnu Cycle”. What is a Rockopolousaninjananophone? Who knows. But we had to write a song around it. Thankfully we knew who Vishnu is so that we could work with that. The results as usual were very creative and some very good songs came out of that. My favorite came from my frequent musical partner, Johnny Cashpoint, under a psuedonym
