The 10kdays look at Bond themes continues with the classic stuff. When you think Bond theme, I don’t think most people think Nancy Sinatra, Chris Cornell or a-ha. Probably the first thing that comes to mind, and rightfully so, is Shirley Bassey. I often talk about how the right vocal delivery makes the song and she is the personification of that statement. She’s done 3 themes and each is spectacular. So which do I choose? The lesser of the three is surely Moonraker. As Bond movies go…it’s one of the biggest WTFs. It’s the Bond space mission. With a movie that odd, the song matches and even Bassey’s big voice can help it. So which do I choose….”Diamonds are Forever” or “Goldfinger”? Well, Diamonds is the one that’s been emulated. It’s the one that’s been sampled, covered and it is probably the definitive theme. But “Goldfinger” is the one that set the standard. It’s the first John Barry theme and it wins the day.

Song 823- “Goldfinger” by Shirley Bassey
