Finally I can get back to talking about Honeyhoney. There is just something about this band and I’m not just talking about their ridiculously good looks or the fact that they are one of the bands under Keifer Sutherland’s wing. And yes, they even got Keifer to appear in the video, but there is even more to the band like their nifty lyrics (I adore the “shiny and black like shoes on the rack” line) and their musical style which I struggle to put a fair genre title on. The guitars have some spanish influence but I bet that she could rock a torch song. All in all, they are a pretty cool band and worth at least two nights of my time.

I was in the middle of writing about Honeyhoney when I looked up and saw the time. Crap. So with 6 minutes to my midnight deadline, here is a super 80’s classic. I don’t know why I love this song so much but it gets a ton of spins on my jukebox (especially with the cover by Ivy). It’s gotta be the band name.

We interrupt our look at Honeyhoney to take a moment to reflect on the world. Sometimes a life needs a little perspective. Right now, there is a lot going on in my life. I’m going through a divorce. I’m trying to find a new place to live amidst a crazy economy. Sometimes it can feel like the worst feeling in the world. But then you get some perspective. I can look at today and say that I spoke to people who love and care about me. Today I’m sleeping in a bed I can call moy own. Today I laughed and today I lived. Not everyone can say that. Not everyone can say that they heard the words “I Love You” today. Not everyone will be sleeping in a home tonight. Not everyone will make it through tonight. Even in what feel like my darkest hours, I need to cherish everything I have because the future is not certain.

I have to say that the band Honeyhoney is way too pretty to be allowed to exist. Ben Jaffe and the incredibly attractive Suzanne Santo look like they need to be magazine ads. Instead they are making awesome music. In fact, I have to talk about them for two days in a row because I was going to post up their song “Little Toy Gun” today but I went to their myspace and what do I find. A fricking cover of Smashing Pumpkins “1979” and it’s killer. I couldn’t leave it off my blog. So here’s that cover and more on this band tomorrow and there’s more to say because they are like an onion. I keep finding layers and layers…

I’ve been waiting for days to post up this music video. I talked about the band Cryoshell back on #706. I was amazed by their song “Closer to the Truth” when I stumbled across it looking for Lego stuff for my eldest son. I often wondered if I would hear anything else from the band. Well, there’s a new Lego movie coming to DVD and much to my happy surprise Cryoshell has a new song in the movie. And I found out they made a music video for it. BUT the video wasn’t online until just recently. I looked often and didn’t come across it until now. Joy. I still can’t believe that this is Lego music.

It’s another chronicle of the tired Niveous. My eyes feel very heavy, so I’m going to simply end this meta-theme with the song that inspired it.

Yesterday, I said I was going to write about Goodness. I didn’t mean to say that. I meant to say Hammerbox. Why would I make that mistake? Both bands are headed up by Carrie Akre. Hammerbox came first. I don’t think I have ever told the Hammerbox story in 10kdays, so here we go. So, it was in the midst of the grudge era and I was a junior high school kid. I was rocked by the power of a song called “You”. I set out to buy the whole album just on the power of that one song which I didn’t exactly know the song title or the band name. It was something-box. So I went to the record store for some help. And the clerk helped me alright….and so I got a Hammerbox album instead of a Candlebox album. And I love it from top to bottom. I enjoyed it so much, I didn’t know any of the song titles for years because I spent such a long time just playing the album as a whole. It’s still one of my faves.
