29 Dec

Sadly, every year is met with a lot of loss in the musical world. 2009 is no different. Some of the musical passings this year included:

Ron Asheton (The Stooges)
Dewey Martin (Buffalo Springfield)
Lux Interior (The Cramps)
Randy Cain (The Delfonics)
Koko Taylor
Michael Jackson
Les Paul
Mary Travers
Roc Raida (X-cutioners)
Vic Chestnutt
Britney Murphy

and many others. And just yesterday The Rev, drummer of Avenged Sevenfold passed away. Rest in peace.

I hope enjoy had a spectacular Christmas. 10kdays is back and it’s about time to start looking at the best songs of 2009 or at least the ones that I haven’t already talked about here in the blog. Well, let’s start off easy with my breakthrough artist of the year. No artist has earned my infatuation more than the glam wunderkind Lady GaGa. I’m shocked that I didn’t write about this song before. Sure, the album “The Fame” came out in 2008 but this song became a number one hit in April of 2009. It earned a ton of play from me and just about everywhere you turned it was getting played. C’mon, Cartman sang it South Park and it garnered such attention, people began requesting its addition to Rock Band, despite the lack of any notable guitar. One of the best of the year. I love it.

Still under construction. I’ve gotta figure this out soon, especially because it’s time to look at some year end stuff. But that starts after Xmas. Until then, here’s the I song in my alphabet jukebox- an 80’s classic.

I still need to figure out a plan on keeping 10kdays going. Hmmm. Here’s a song for H.

I finally realized what is holding me down from doing this every day. It’s not a lack of desire. It’s the fact that I only seem to be able to do this late at night and with my recent changes in life, it’s much harder to be able to get to post. I need to figure out a way to post earlier in the day. This may mean a blog switch or something. I’ll keep you posted. Back to the alphabetical jukebox. G is easy. I’ve been all about the Lady Gaga lately. She’s gone from guilty pleasure to me becoming a devoted fan. There’s just something about her that I can’t place a finger on. C’mon, she made Beyonce more palatable. That’s quite an accomplishment. Plus, she’s super art crazy which is always fun.

Song 1049- “Bad Romance” by Lady Gaga

Extra: DJ Schmolli is one of Mashup’s top DJ’s and when I went looking for great Lady Gaga mashups, I was not surprised to find his work there. I was surprised to find that he mashed it with Bullet for my Valentine?!

This weekend, my friend Beck came over to my house with her kids. My boys were there and together the kids played some Rock Band. As I was helping cook dinner, I was surprised to hear the choice of song as picked by my youngest. It was Faith No More. I grinned immediately and turned to Beck and said “I have raised my kids right”. The FNM song of choice:
