10kdays is back and welcome to 2010 and one thing that I wish for in the new year is a resurgence of the art form of the music video. There are way too many music videos coming out lately that aren’t pushing the envelope. Just because MTV is no longer really Music Television doesn’t mean that the art form shouldn’t strive. It’s an artform and with society becoming so enthralled with internet video, there is bound to be a place for great music videos again. People watch music videos on YouTube all the time, but I must say that YouTube lacks the devotion to the artform. Music Video needs a website like Hulu. Hulu is based around showing TV shows. Music video needs that. MTV.com doesn’t cut it since MTV doesn’t. Neither does VH-1 and Fuse just doesn’t carry the weight. The site will come. In the meantime, those who are devoted to music videos like myself will have to seek out the bands who are putting out interesting works. For example, Slipknot often does a great job with making very artful music videos like the pair of videos they did for Vermillion. Their newest video “Snuff” is another well done piece. I’m not going to say much more about it, simply because it’s something you need to see. I don’t want to give it away, I guess.
