Remember that cool Smashing Pumpkins video with all the kids running around the convenient store and tp’ing the houses? Remember the Jane’s Addiction video with the cross dressing shoplifter? How about the Korn video with the magic bullet? Or the Red Hot Chili Peppers video with the insane cab ride? Or when the Ramones did the Spiderman theme? All those great videos and many more were done by the team of Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris. Why have they gone from the landscape of music video making? They made the movie Little Miss Sunshine in 2006 and received a ton of awards and award nominations and now it seems like they have walked away from the art that they used to do. I’m all for artistic evolution but it doesn’t stop me from missing their contributions to the art form. Hopefully one day the duo will return to doing music videos. In the meantime, here’s one of their older videos:
