Last time on 10kdays, I said I would be talking about a classic heavy metal album. The day before my 9th birthday, the world would be introduced to Megadeth’s “Peace Sells…but who’s buying?”. A great mix of powerful thrash metal and political angst, this may not have been their debut album but it was the one that put them on the map (especially when the previous album included a version of “These Boots Are Made For Walking”. Yes, that happened.). Now, I will admit that my Megadeth fandom didn’t start up for another 4 years with the amazing Rust in Peace album. But that didn’t mean that I didn’t know who Megadeth was and the title track, “Peace Sells”, has always been considered mandatory listening with good reason. From the first listen, you can tell there is something special in the song. The Dave Ellefson bass line is one of the best in rock history, an immediately recognizable riff that drags you in and sets up the foundation for a killer Dave Mustaine rant on how people think metalheads can’t care about the issues, done in that great question/answer – talk/sing style. A classic.
